Christmas in Exeter

Christmas in Exeter is a truly magical time, with the switch on of the Christmas lights, wandering around the Christmas Market and ice skating at the Winter Wonderland! Whether you are young or old, there are numerous events to get involved in to get into the festive spirit this year and celebrate Christmas in Exeter in style.

Exeter Christmas Market

Christmas in Exeter wouldn’t be complete without a visit (or multiple!) to the Exeter Christmas Market, situated in prime position in front of the Cathedral, with festive songs aplenty. Wander round the wooden chalets and take a look at the wide range of artisan crafts, local food and drink, and bespoke jewellery on offer from the cute wooden chalets. Foodies will be in their element with the vast range of food on offer, from sourdough pizzas and hog roast rolls to gourmet mac n’ cheese, crepes, and churros. Grab a glass of mulled wine or mulled cider from the drinks tent and enjoy free entry into the magnificent Exeter Cathedral.

Exeter Winter Wonderland

From the quaint chalets of the Christmas Market to the squeals of delight coming from the rides in the Winter Wonderland, Exeter gives you the chance to experience it all! There are numerous rides and attractions for all the family to enjoy, as well as a wide range of food outlets, including the obligatory candyfloss stall! To truly get into the Christmassy spirit, have a go at ice skating on the real ice rink, before paying a visit to Santa’s Grotto.

Attend a carol service

Nothing embodies the spirit of Christmas more than the wonderful sound of carol singers, belting out some of the much-loved classics such as ‘Away in a Manger’ and ‘Little Donkey’. There are multiple services you can attend on the run up to Christmas, such as the service run by the Exeter University Evangelical Christian Union on the 12th December at St James’ Park, the service at St Mark’s Church on the 18th December, and  Christmas with the Cathedral Choir on Friday 9th December, Sunday 11th December and Monday 12th December.

Christmas at Killerton

For a true Christmas experience, be sure not to miss the magical Christmas at Killerton. The majestic house will be decorated for Christmas, with the ground floor showcasing beautiful Christmas trees and mantlepieces, alongside handmade decorations. There is a great Christmas play trail for children, as well as hot food and drink served in The Stables Coffee Shop, so you can warm up over a hot chocolate and a mince pie.

Don't miss out on all the Exeter has to offer this Christmas time, and make the most of the festive period in magical Devon!
