Playposium 2026
Hosted in its very own big top on XFI lawns, Playposium brought with it a light-hearted air of fun and creativity. During the four-day event, some 100 delegates gathered to meet like-minded people, take part in hands-on activities and explore the role of play in learning, education and creativity.
Delievered in collaboration with TechExeter CIC, Playposium kicked-started proceedings with Gamefest 26. Gamers both young and old from the whole community came together to celebrate the power of play - the joy of gaming, storytelling and playful experiences. It was a clear demonstration of how play can bring diverse communities together and create opportunities to learn, experiment and of course have some fun.

OBJECTIVE
Playposium exists as a response to an evolving world which lacks connection and belonging, where efficiency increasingly replaces humanity. The event programme was created to encourage curiosity, communication, teamwork and problem-solving as well as giving attendees the chance to discover new games and meet others with shared interests.
By bringing together teachers, designers, makers, coaches, developers, families and the simply curious, the event sought to demonstrate the social and educational value of play and inspire participants to take playful ideas back into their own communities.
‘Play is not just an activity, it is a feeling. It invites freedom, curiosity, and shared meaning. Through play, we can gently resist rigid norms, re-humanise learning and work, and create communities rooted in care, imagination, and collective possibility.’
Execution
What made Playposium stand out from the crowd? It had to be its signature red and white striped Big Top style tent. Being located on XFI lawns allowed for a collective venue set up, with delegates able to make full use of lecture theatre space as well the tent and lawns, which came into their own for the team activities, social space and evening bbq. The social layout created an event with a true sense of community.

RESULTS
Playposium 26 created a welcoming space where people of all ages and backgrounds could come together, have fun and discover something new. From gaming and storytelling to creative and experimental experiences, there was plenty to get involved with and independent developers and creative practitioners took the opportunity to share their work with the community. But most importantly, it was a live demonstration of how play can bring people together, spark curiosity and create a real sense of connection.
