Thinking of a weekend break in Exeter this summer? There are endless entertainment opportunities all year round, but things really start to hot up as we head towards the summer months.

This summer looks to be a festival frenzy in and around the historical city. Here are just few ideas to help convince you that a weekend break in Exeter is definitely worth considering.

Exeter Festival Frenzy

Exeter Festival (5th – 7th July 2019)

A new face on the summer events scene in the city, the Exeter Festival is looking incredibly promising on the entertainment front.

A packed weekend programme is set to entertain crowds, with outdoor cinema screenings, music performances from internationally renowned band, the Hoosiers and of course up and coming local talent alike.

On Sunday, the festival culminates nicely in a huge family fun day in Northernhay Gardens, so they really have got all bases covered

Exeter Craft Festival (4th – 6th July 2019)

Before you take to the grass for the evening performance of Bohemian Rhapsody, why not pay a visit to the Exeter Craft Festival? Taking place on Cathedral Green (just head for the Cathedral, you can’t miss it) the festival brings together some of the finest arts and crafts people from the South West.

Not so new on the scene, this free event has been taking place for over 40 years and has become a firm favourite amongst visitors and locals alike. With over 100 stalls displaying a mixture of crafting wares, musicians, face painters and refreshments, again there is something for all.

Exeter Fringe Festival (26th July – 4th August 2019)

Another newbie on the scene, the inaugural Fringe Festival is set to ramp up the theatre scene in Exeter this summer.

The diverse programme features a pleasing mixture of fringe, family and comedy theatre and will showcase the best in local talent as well as performers from further afield. Performances will take place in two of the city’s cultural venues – the Barnfield Theatre and the Exeter Phoenix.

The Gin to My Tonic Festival (9th - 10th August 2019)

Of a slightly different ilk, this festival speaks for itself and will bring together over 100 different gins from all over the world.

If gin’s your thing (or if you’ve not yet been introduced) this is the festival for you. Branch out into new flavours, meet industry experts and just generally enjoy all things gin.
