The Stories Behind Reed Hall’s Meeting Rooms

Woodbridge Dining Room

Nestled within the landscaped gardens of the University of Exeter’s Streatham Campus, Reed Hall provides an inspiring backdrop for meetings, conferences, private dining and celebrations, with each meeting room telling its own story - reflecting the building’s past and the people connected to it.

The Woodbridge Dining Room

This room sits at the rear of the building, occupying what was once a billiard room added in 1878. With glass doors opening directly onto the lawns and botanical gardens, it’s an elegant space for larger conferences, banquets and evening events, accommodating up to 140 guests for dining.

 The Upper Lounge

This light-filled room is full of Italianate charm, continuing its historic role as a communal space. Overlooking the gardens, it’s ideal for conferences and presentations for up to 85 delegates.

The Ibrahim Ahmed Room

Located on the accessible ground floor, this room is named in honour of the Kurdish politician and poet whose generosity supports the University’s Centre for Kurdish Studies. The room’s airy feel and garden views make it well suited to meetings, workshops and breakout sessions for up to 40 people, with the option to connect to the neighbouring Margaret Hewitt Room for hospitality or additional space.

 The Margaret Hewitt Room

This room is named after the British sociologist and distinguished academic at the University of Exeter, Margaret Hewitt. Elegantly appointed, this room is suitable for small-scale meetings or private dining for up to 12 people.

The Garden Room

This beautiful room offers an intimate, elegant setting for board meetings or private dining for up to 12 people. The room’s name reflects its direct access to the surrounding grounds and retains elaborate period detailing that adds a sense of historic charm.

The Thornton West Room

This room is named after Richard Thornton West, the East India merchant who built the original house. With an adjoining lounge area, it’s ideal for executive meetings requiring privacy and space for breakout discussions.

The Walter Daw Room

This room is named after a long-serving Mayor of Exeter, and provides a compact and focused meeting space, perfect for smaller meetings or breakout sessions for up to 12 people.
