The Women Behind Event Exeter: The People Making Every Event Happen

Great events don’t just happen; they’re created by passionate people behind the scenes.

This International Women’s Day, we’re celebrating some of the incredible women at Event Exeter who bring creativity, organisation and energy to every event we host. From sales and planning to client support, their work turns ideas into memorable experiences.

We asked members of our team what drew them to the events industry, who inspires them, and the strengths women bring to the profession.

What sparked a career in events?

For many of our team, it started with a love of bringing people together.

CandiceCandice, Event Specialist, has always enjoyed organising and hosting.

“I love socialising, attending events and hosting them. I’ve always been the person who enjoys organising things and getting creative with the details. Now, what I love most is speaking to people and making sure they have a great experience. When someone leaves an event happy, that makes me smile.”

For Caroline, Assistant Event Sales Manager, the fast-paced nature of the industry was the initial draw.

“I loved the idea that no two days would ever be the same. The pace, the problem solving and the constant new challenges really appealed to me. What keeps me smiling today is the variety of people I work with - clients, colleagues and suppliers. Every day feels different.”

The women who inspire us

Behind every career journey are people who inspire it.

Caroline credits the strong women in her family.Caroline

“My grandmother never allowed her gender to define her path. My mother raised my sister and me on her own, facing challenges with strength and grace. My older sister also inspires me every day with her courage and resilience.”

Others pointed to inspiring female leaders in the workplace. Seeing women like Professor Lisa Roberts, President and Vice-Chancellor of the University of Exeter, in senior roles shows that leadership can be both strategic and supportive, and encourages others to follow in their footsteps.

Strengths women bring to the events industry

When asked what strengths women bring to events, several key qualities stood out: emotional intelligence, adaptability and multitasking.

AbiieAbiie, Sales Support Coordinator, explained:

“Women in the events industry often excel at emotional intelligence and client management. The ability to read a room, anticipate challenges and balance logistics with people-focused communication is a real strength, and one that deserves greater recognition.”

Candice highlighted another essential skill:

“Multitasking and thinking on your feet. In events, situations can change quickly, and women are often great at handling several things at once while keeping everything running smoothly.”
